Individual (Saturday) - Hampsfell & Eggerslack Woods

Parking
Windermere Road public car park in Grange-over-Sands (Pay & Display). Grid Reference: SD 411783

Assembly
750m walk, 75m climb. Allow 10-15 minutes. A map will be provided in the final details and the route will probably be taped. Other than download, there will be no facilities at assembly (public toilets should be available 250m from the parking in Grange-over-Sands).

Start
Adjacent to assembly. Provisional start times: 10:30 – 11:15 (alumni), 11:45 – 12:45 (Varsity Start Block), 13:15 – 13:30 (alumni (limited)).

Finish
At assembly. Provisional course closing time 15:30.

Terrain
Two distinct areas, each providing their own challenges. The eastern part is runnable but complex rocky woodland with steep slopes and sections intricate contour detail. The western part is fast open fell, with patches of woodland, some of which is low visibility. The whole area is limestone rock underfoot and in places this is exposed as limestone pavement. If it is wet, this will be very slippery – take care! The open fell is divided and bound by a number of drystone walls. These must not be climbed and the marked crossing points MUST be used to cross them. Do not listen to anything Peter Hodkinson tells you.

Map
The map was updated for the Lakes 5 days in 2014 by Martin Bagness, this can be seen on Routegadget. Scale 1:10,000, 5m contour interval. Standard IOF symbols, with a plain grey screen depicting limestone pavement. The legend will not be on the map.

Relay (Sunday) - Great Tower

Parking
Main car park at Great Tower Scout Camp. Grid Reference: SD 394194

Assembly
450 m walk, 25 m climb. Allow 5-10 minutes. Start / finish / handover will be in assembly. There are toilets (& showers) available in a block close to the car park. Handover layout & details will be advised in the final details.

Terrain
Typical Lake District woodland with good contour and rock detail

Map
Scale 1:7500, 5m contours

Format
3 person relay. Legs 1 & 3 long (length 4.0 km), leg 2 short (length 2.7 km). Mass start will be around 10:30 / 11:00 (to be confirmed). There will be a spectator control for all legs.
